81 of Latvijas Past post offices will provide postal services on Saturdays

A total of 81 Latvijas Pasts post offices across the country will ensure the provision of services also on Saturdays in strict compliance with the security measures established in the country to contain the spread of COVID-19. The post offices open at weekends will provide services and sell only the goods related to the provision of postal services, as well as food, public transport tickets, press and personal protective equipment. Out of the total number of the post offices working at weekends, 34 post offices are open on such days on a regular basis, but until the 23rd of January 2021 additional 47 post offices will be open on Saturdays throughout the country, promoting the maximum circulation of postal items during the busy period at the turn of the year.

In accordance with the explanation received from the Group for Coordination of Interinstitutional Activities, the prohibitions under the state of emergency for work at weekends are applicable to retailers, while Latvijas Pasts is considered to be a provider of household services. The end-of-the-year holiday load causes a multi-fold increase in the volume of postal items at postal establishments around the world in December. In addition, the situation with COVID-19 leads to uneven distribution of the flow of items and post offices tend to receive a massive number of items simultaneously.

In order for all customers to be able to receive and send items, a total of 81 post offices will be open on Saturdays in strict compliance with the security measures established in the country to contain COVID-19. Of them 34 post offices are already open on Saturdays on a regular basis and 47 will be open additionally for working on Saturdays until the 23rd of January next year.

Latvijas Pasts post offices open at weekends will provide the services available at them, but the goods that can be purchased there are only those related to the provision of postal services, such as stamps, envelopes, postcards, parcel packaging and adhesive tapes, as well as food sold at post offices, public transport tickets, press, disinfectants and face and mouth shields.

Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding, because in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country, there are restrictions on the number of people who can stay in the premises of service providers at a time. Therefore, the capabilities to provide services at post offices have decreased and situations may arise where customers have to wait to receive their services while standing outside the post office and keeping a distance from each other.

To avoid having to wait for the needed postal service, Latvijas Pasts encourages you to make use of the company’s mobile application, which allows you to apply for the service remotely and show up at the post office just in time for receiving your service. You can apply for services remotely in 86 largest and busiest post offices throughout Latvia; the list of these post offices is available here
