Latvijas Pasts ensures deliveries of postal items to the UK with special charter flights

Latvijas Pasts will ensure an alternative solution for deliveries to the UK and will deliver all items received by Latvijas Pasts to this country using special charter flights. Following the ban on all types of passenger transportation to and from the UK for security reasons until the 1st of January 2021, Latvijas Pasts will provide other options for arranging the delivery of postal items and is negotiating with the British postal operator Royal Mail on possible delivery of items with these charter flights from the UK to Latvia.

Following the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to suspend passenger transportation through airports, ports and bus service to and from the UK from the 21st of December 2020 to the 1st of January 2021 as part of restrictive measures to mitigate a new strain of coronavirus, the traditional transportation of postal items by passenger aircraft to that country is no longer possible.

Therefore Latvijas Pasts will provide an opportunity for alternative organisation of item deliveries to the UK and will gradually deliver all items addressed to recipients in that country with special cargo charter flights. At the same time Latvijas Pasts is negotiating with the British postal operator Royal Mail about the possibility of delivering items to recipients in Latvia in this way.

Due to the expected Brexit, land cargo transportation to that country has been delayed for several weeks, so Latvijas Pasts, like most postal companies around the world, was using passenger aircraft for deliveries during this period. In the new situation Latvijas Pasts will use cargo charter flights to ensure deliveries, which is a more expensive, but currently the only efficient mode of transportation available and it will require investment of additional resources of Latvijas Pasts.

You can follow the current forecasts of the possibilities of delivery of international postal items to various countries outside Latvia in the section COVID-19 Restrictions on International Postal Items on the website of Latvijas Pasts here.
