Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp on the 100th anniversary of the de jure recognition of the Republic of Latvia
On the 26th of January 2021 Latvijas Pasts releases a postage stamp to commemorate a nationally important event: the 100th anniversary of the international de jure recognition of the Republic of Latvia. The new stamps will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. Those interested in the first day cancellation options are invited to contact us by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv

The new stamp De Jure Recognition of Latvia – 100 has a print run of 50,000 copies, while the print run of the special cover is 2,500 copies. The face value of the stamp is € 1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The new philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva.

The visual design of the stamp features a drawing of the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia created by the artist Anna Kustikova in 2019. In turn, the cover depicts a historical photograph by the photographer Mārtiņš Lapiņš dating back to the 26th of January 1921 and coming from the collections of the National Archives of Latvia.

The 26th of January 2021 will mark the 100th anniversary of the international de jure recognition of the Republic of Latvia. This date is linked with the events in Paris, when on this very day in 1921 the well-targeted two-year-long efforts of Latvian diplomats resulted in the decision of the Supreme Council of the Entente on the de jure recognition of Latvia, thus making Latvia an internationally recognised country.

Taking into consideration that public events, including the first day stamp cancellation at post offices, are currently suspended due to security requirements, stamp collectors and those interested in philately are invited to contact the Stamp and Philately Department of Latvijas Pasts regarding stamp cancellation options by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv.

The new stamp will first be available for purchase at Riga post office No. 10 at 14/43 Elizabetes Street, Riga post office No. 50 in the shopping centre Origo at 2 Stacijas laukums, post centre Sakta at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, Riga, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/.

The stamp and the cover De Jure Recognition of Latvia – 100 can be seen here.

The next philatelic release is scheduled for the 19th of February.
