Deliveries of Latvijas Pasts range of goods to customers’ places of residence by postmen demonstrate an increase of 40%

In December 2020 and January 2021 deliveries of retail goods sold in Latvijas Pasts network to customers’ places of residence have increased on average by 40% compared to previous months. Customers mainly use the opportunity to purchase retail goods related to postal services, but in recent months various household goods have also started to gain ground in the deliveries made by postmen. The possibility to receive the necessary goods through postmen is of paramount importance for residents of the regions who live far away from populated areas and who do not have the opportunity to shop conveniently at a place and time suitable for them, especially in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the second wave of the pandemic, the delivery of the goods of Latvijas Pasts retail network to customers’ homes by postmen has become more active: at the end of 2020 and in the first month of 2021 the growth of the number of goods delivered in this manner was on average 40% compared to previous months. The most common goods purchased this way are those related to postal items, such as stamps, envelopes, postcards and item packaging. Prepaid cards for mobile phones are also popular. However, in recent months there has also been an increase in the supply of household goods.

“Residents of rural areas have always actively used the opportunity to receive goods through Latvijas Pasts – both by choosing the goods from Latvijas Pasts retail network range and also from online stores as a result of the development of technology and the increasing use of e-commerce. As Latvijas Pasts makes it possible to reach residents throughout Latvia, including the most remote rural homesteads, in fact it is an opportunity for any resident, regardless of his or her place of residence, to receive the goods they need, thus ensuring the same availability of goods as for people living in cities,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

The chance to get the necessary items delivered home by a postman is particularly important for senior citizens who live far away from populated areas and who do not have the option of moving around easily and making the necessary purchases. Besides, the possibilities of shopping safely outside the home during the COVID-19 pandemic are limited.

In December 2020 Latvijas Pasts agreed on cooperation with the retail company ELVI to ensure delivery of food to customers’ places of residence in Latgale, thus promoting equal opportunities for the residents of this region to receive also fresh produce at their homes. Food deliveries by Latvijas Pasts in cooperation with ELVI will gradually become available in other regions of Latvia too – currently postmen in rural areas of Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Zemgale deliver food on a trial basis.
