Best Latvijas Pasts postmen and post office operators of 2020 have been named in each Latvian region

The most accurate, knowledgeable and helpful postmen and post office operators of each Latvian region have been selected in the customers’ voting during the contest Mans Pastnieks (My Postman) organised by Latvijas Pasts. A total of 946 Latvijas Pasts postmen and post office operators were proposed for either of the nominations and 11,375 residents’ questionnaires were received for them. More than half of the questionnaires were filled in by the customers online. In the questionnaires the customers emphasised both the professional abilities of the employees and their human qualities, saying thank you not only for the fulfilment of their direct job duties but also for their aid in daily life, which is particularly important in the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was the tenth time that Latvijas Pasts held the traditional contest My Postman to give customers an opportunity to say thank you to any of the nearly 2,300 postmen and post office workers of the company – the representatives of these occupations are in direct contact with customers every working day, delivering postal items to any address throughout the country and providing services at post offices. The employees of Latvijas Pasts have not stopped working for a moment even in the conditions of the pandemic, thus ensuring a constant exchange of postal items.

The customer activity in assessing postal employees was similar to the previous year: a total of 11,375 customer questionnaires were received, of which more than half – 6,640 questionnaires – were filled in online.

Based on the customers’ opinion, the following employees have been chosen as the best ones in the postmen competition: Dzidra Vorkale from Rēzekne post office No. 4 in Latgale region, Elīna Freimane from Tukums post office No. 1 in Kurzeme region, Māra Krišjāne from Smiltene post office in Vidzeme region, Vita Elksne from Viesīte delivery point in Zemgale region and Anita Millere from Riga post office No. 69 in Riga region.

In turn, the title of the best post office operator, as voted by the customers, has been awarded to: Baiba Šustere from Bērzpils post office, Balvi Municipality in Latgale region, Diāna Irbe from Tukums post office No. 1 in Kurzeme region, Ruta Bogdanova from Pededze post office, Alūksne Municipality in Vidzeme region, Dace Melne from post centre Bauska in Zemgale region and Ludmila Šarapova from Riga post office No. 57 in Riga region.

Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts: “Thank you to all employees of Latvijas Pasts for their work during this challenging period, but I would especially like to thank the postmen and post office operators who have worked tirelessly to provide all the necessary services to our customers even during the pandemic. Thank you to the customers who use the services of our company, value our employees and have filled in the questionnaires to choose their favourite postal employee: this is very important for us both as a company as a whole and for each individual employee!”

In daily life and especially in the time of COVID-19 the occupations of a postman and a post office operator are particularly appreciated in the countryside, as the employees of Latvijas Pasts are also helpful and forthcoming outside their immediate job duties, oftentimes supporting with advice or practical help those who struggle to care for themselves. In their questionnaires the residents have highlighted the most accurate, knowledgeable and helpful postmen and post office operators, emphasising also their human qualities, as a postman is often the major link with the outside world for isolated farmsteads in rural areas.

The postmen and post office operators with the highest assessment rates given by the customers will receive valuable prizes from Latvijas Pasts.

This was the tenth time that Latvijas Pasts called on residents to assess the best postman and post office operator of each region, highlighting their professional abilities and saying thank you for their good work. At the beginning of October 2020 the questionnaires for the contest My Postman were sent out together with the Newspaper and Magazine Subscription Catalogues for 2021, and it was also possible to fill them in online at http://anketa.pasts.lv/. Using the questionnaires, the customers could vote for the best postal employee until the 31st of January 2021.
