Latvijas Pasts activates a food delivery service from ELVI to customers’ places of residence also in Zemgale

In March 2021 Latvijas Pasts activated a cooperation project with the retail company ELVI, now also delivering food to customers’ places of residence in Zemgale. This ensures a significant additional service for residents of the region who do not have access to a point of sale or who want to receive certain groups of goods without leaving home. Such a service is especially important in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it is safer to stay at the place of residence, receiving the necessary service on the spot. Foodstuffs are delivered throughout Zemgale outside the largest cities, where a wide range of food retailers and suppliers is represented and customers do not need such a delivery model. Food delivery in cooperation with ELVI is also carried out in Latgale, while in other regions of Latvia it is implemented on a trial basis for the time being.

In December 2020, Latvijas Pasts and ELVI agreed on joint cooperation, launching a food delivery service for the residents of rural areas in Latgale and thus ensuring equal opportunities for people living outside cities to receive fresh produce. Now an analogous cooperation model has been activated in Zemgale, providing secure shopping advantages to the rural residents of this region too. Already in the first week of March 2021, since the offer became effective, there has been a noticeable response of Zemgale customers to the home delivery of products through the postmen of Latvijas Pasts

The advantages of food delivery from ELVI through Latvijas Pasts include speed and easy access to every customer; moreover, such a model of cooperation between Latvijas Pasts and ELVI now ensures safe shopping opportunities for residents not only in Latgale, but also in Zemgale. It is particularly important to provide such an opportunity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, when people take more care of their health, but it is not always easy to get safely from remote rural areas to a point of sale in a populated area.

“Combining the capabilities of Latvijas Pasts, consisting of the postmen’s experience and professionalism, customer service and post office network with the quality offer of the goods from ELVI has resulted in an attractive solution, which is appropriate to the pandemic conditions and which meets the needs of people residing in rural areas – now also in Zemgale,” Inga Pranckeviča, Director of the Retail Department of Latvijas Pasts points out.

According to Laila Vārtukapteine, Commercial Manager of ELVI Latvija SIA: “The mission ELVI as the Latvian food retail chain has been to serve as the people’s store for every resident of Latvia for more than 20 years, and I am really pleased that the successful cooperation with Latvijas Pasts allows us to implement this commitment in the most direct way and provide fresh food also to rural homestead residents. An improved delivery system in Zemgale Region is an important step towards making this service fully available throughout Latvia.”

The food offer available for ordering is included in a special catalogue, which was delivered free of charge to customers’ letter-boxes throughout Zemgale, except for Aizkraukle, Bauska, Dobele, Jelgava, Jēkabpils and Ogre, at the beginning of March. However, if the residents of these cities also want to receive food orders at their places of residence in areas served by postmen who use motor vehicles for daily work, such an opportunity will be offered.

To order the desired goods from the catalogue, the customer must contact the specialists of the Latvijas Pasts Customer Centre by calling +371 67608444, a dedicated phone line set up for accepting food orders. The goods will be delivered on the next business day if the order is placed by 1 PM, but their delivery will not take place on weekends and holidays.

Food deliveries by Latvijas Pasts in cooperation with ELVI will gradually become available across Latvia – currently postmen in rural areas of Vidzeme and Kurzeme deliver food on a trial basis.
