Latvijas Pasts urges customers to remember about safety and to consider the time of the visit to collect the benefit at the post office

Due to the payment of a one-time state support benefit – EUR 500 per child – Latvijas Pasts urges the beneficiaries who receive these funds on their account in the Postal Payments System to give thought to the time of visiting the post office and consider the option of planning the collection of money in the second half of the working week, when the payment of this month’s pensions will have been completed. This request is connected with the security measures in place for on-site customer service in the conditions of COVID-19, which reduces the number of people served at the post offices on the spot. Therefore massive inflows of visitors to the post offices for collecting their benefits may lead to additional congestion and overcrowding.

Due to the payment of a one-time state benefit of EUR 500 per child to reduce the negative consequences and tension of COVID-19, Latvijas Pasts forecasts an influx of customers at the post offices throughout Latvia, as some of the beneficiaries of these funds are paid through the Postal Payments System (PNS). Latvijas Pasts urges customers not to forget about security and asks the recipients of the benefit to consider the possibility to use the second half of the working week to collect the money, which is from Wednesday, the 24th of March 2021, when the payment of most of the pensions at the post offices will have been completed.

This request is related to national security measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, which limits on-site customer service. Simultaneous and massive inflows of visitors to the post offices can lead to increased congestion and crowding at the post offices, causing additional risks. Moreover, in the event of a large demand for money due to both the payment of pensions and benefits at the same time there may be temporary interruptions in the issuance of cash.

At the beginning of the week a large number of postal items arrive at post offices, and they have to be delivered to numerous customers. At the same time the possibilities to serve customers at post offices are decreasing: the number of people allowed to be served on site and, consequently, the number of cash register systems has been reduced at several dozens of post offices due to the security requirements established in the country.

Therefore Latvijas Pasts encourages customers to plan their visit to the post office for collecting the one-time benefit for each child during the second half of the week, starting from the 24th of March, keeping in mind the safety requirements. At the post offices with the automatic customer flow management system in place the services must be applied for remotely from the Latvijas Pasts mobile application or the ticket must be taken out on the spot; in the event of an influx of visitors, customers have to wait for their turn outdoors; a distance from each other of two meters must be maintained; visitors must wear a face mask.
