Following the growth in the amount of postal items and cumbersome cargo, Latvijas Pasts is expanding and starting to offer also warehousing services

With the increase in the amount of e-commerce items and a significant growth in the share of cumbersome items and cargo, Latvijas Pasts has started using additional premises located in the area of Riga International Airport and measuring 1,400 square metres in order to ensure high-quality and fast servicing of this flow. Following the expansion, Latvijas Pasts will begin to offer also the necessary warehousing services to e-commerce customers in parallel with delivery services. The new additional premises are situated near the sorting centre of Latvijas Pasts, ensuring the most efficient logistics processes.

The increasingly intense development of e-commerce and the rapid growth of postal items in this segment, which is also related to the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to a significant growth in the number of cumbersome items, and the existing capacity of the item processing and sorting centre Latvijas Pasts was no longer sufficient to provide the efficient servicing of such items. Along with the increase in the number of e-commerce items, there has also been a double growth in activities in the segment of cargo deliveries implemented by Latvijas Pasts in recent months, where the share of cumbersome cargo is also increasing.

To ensure fast and efficient processing of these items, as well as to be able to increase the servicing of this type of item and cargo flows in the company, Latvijas Pasts has started using additional warehouses located in the area of Riga International Airport and measuring 1,400 square metres. Thus, Latvijas Pasts significantly improves its competitiveness and the opportunities offered to cooperation partners in the regular processing and further delivery of additional items and cargo to customers in Latvia and the Baltic region, as well as in the provision of warehousing services.

It is planned to use the new premises additionally, also providing warehousing services, as e-commerce customers demonstrate an increasing trend of choosing such cooperation partners that provide both processing and delivery and warehousing services. Therefore Latvijas Pasts plans to actively develop and offer this service to various market participants.

During the week since Latvijas Pasts started using the new warehouse, an average of 10 trucks with different types of items leave it every day, and it is known already now that their volumes will grow in the near future.

The amount of cumbersome items and cargo at Latvijas Pasts in March 2021 has doubled compared to previous months. Cumbersome item cargo consists mainly of goods from online stores, such as various types of household appliances, furniture, car parts, etc.
