From the 30th of April 2021 eight busiest post offices will be open an hour longer to deliver items

To improve customer service and facilitate more efficient circulation of postal items, starting from Friday, the 30th of April, eight post offices in Riga and Salaspils – Riga post offices No. 5, 21, 24, 39, 55, 82 and 83 and Salaspils post office – will be open an hour longer on weekdays, ensuring the delivery of postal items during this time. In addition to the extended opening hours, Riga post office No. 5 will also start work half an hour earlier – from 7:30 AM. Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding and to use the extended working hours only for receiving items.

The flow of inbound items has now grown significantly at some Latvijas Pasts post offices, with a substantial number of items accumulating, which prevents the prompt processing of further items and their delivery to customers. In order to improve customer service and facilitate faster movement of items, the opening hours of the eight busiest post offices in Riga and Salaspils will be extended from the 30th of April, and only the item delivery service will be provided during the additional working hours.

From now on Riga post office No. 21 at 7 Ulbrokas Street, Riga post office No. 24 at 430a Brīvības gatve, Riga post office No. 39 at 211 Brīvības gatve, Riga post office No. 55 at 12 Cementa Street, Riga post office No. 82 at 120 Augusta Deglava Street, Riga post office No. 83 at 1a Dzirciema Street and Salaspils post office at 5 Skolas Street will provide services to customers for one hour longer every weekday: from 8 AM to 8 PM. Meanwhile Riga post office No. 5 at 11 Tilta Street bldg. 3 will also start work half an hour earlier, and its opening hours will now be from 7:30 AM to 8 PM.

Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding and to use the extended opening hours at the above-mentioned post offices only for receiving postal items, as well as invites customers to take the opportunity and collect their items at this dedicated time.

It should be recalled that, as COVID-19 continues to spread, the negative effects of the virus have a significant impact on both the flow of inbound items and the provision of services at post offices. The flow of international items is very uneven, with a large volume of items from abroad often incoming at the same time, which arrive at the post offices after processing in the sorting centre of Latvijas Pasts and which have to be delivered to a large number of customers simultaneously. At the same time the possibilities for serving customers at post offices are decreasing: the number of people allowed to be served on site and, consequently, the number of cash register systems has been reduced at several dozens of post offices due to the security requirements.

To address this issue and ensure the fastest possible delivery of postal items, Latvijas Pasts offers its customers various solutions: in addition to extending the opening hours, new parcel lockers have now been installed in or next to 11 post offices for the delivery of items.

In order to avoid spending more time than necessary at a post office, Latvijas Pasts encourages you to make maximum use of the company’s mobile application, which allows you to apply for the service remotely and show up at the post office just in time for receiving your service. More information about applying for services remotely is available here.

As an alternative to receiving registered items at post offices, Latvijas Pasts recommends redirecting these items to any of Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers throughout the country, using the company’s mobile app. Latvijas Pasts provides customers with the opportunity to remotely redirect any traceable, registered or insured postal item via the mobile app to any of more than 60 parcel lockers of the company across Latvia or to any other address that suits you best.

Latvijas Pasts continues to look for solutions to ensure the optimal operation of post offices and the delivery of items, taking into account the current situation.
