Some more post offices offer pick-up of items from parcel lockers, including those outside Riga: in Jēkabpils, Ulbroka, Bauska, Rēzekne

In recent weeks new Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers for quicker pick-up of postal items have been installed at six more post offices throughout Latvia, including those outside Riga: in Jēkabpils, Ulbroka, Bauska and Rēzekne. Continuing the placement of parcel lockers for more efficient collection of items at the busiest post offices of Latvijas Pasts, where the biggest number of items tend to be delivered, 15 parcel lockers have already been installed at the post offices or next to them. In addition to the above mentioned parcel lockers for item delivery, Latvijas Pasts plans to place up to 120 new outdoor parcel lockers this year.

To reduce the workload of post offices and the need to use the labour of postal operators in delivering items, new parcel lockers for more efficient and faster collection of items have now also been installed at Riga post office No. 35 at 2a Sesku Street, Riga post office No. 58 at 21 Dižozolu Street and – outside Riga – at Jēkabpils post office No. 1 at 131 Brīvības Street, in the premises of Ulbroka’s culture centre Ulbroka Pearl at 3 Institūta Street, at the post centre Bauska at 9a Slimnīcas Street and at Rēzekne post office No. 1 at 81 Atbrīvošanas Street bldg. 5.

Each of the new parcel lockers has a different availability time depending on its location: the parcel locker at Riga post office No. 35 can be used by customers to collect their items every working day from 8 AM to 7 PM and on Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM, at Riga post office No. 58 – every working day from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM, at Jēkabpils post office No. 1 – every working day from 8 AM to 6 PM and on Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 PM, in the premises of the culture centre Ulbroka Pearl – Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM, at the post centre Bauska – every working day from 8 AM to 6.30 PM and on Saturdays from 8 AM to 1 PM and at Rēzekne post office No. 1 – every working day from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Taking into account the need to deliver as many items as possible, the parcel lockers located at post offices will initially be intended only for the pick-up of items – the item dispatch function will be activated as soon as the item delivery flow at the post offices becomes more homogeneous.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, the negative effects of the virus have a significant impact on both the flow of inbound items and the provision of services at post offices. The flow of international items is very uneven, with a large volume of items from abroad often incoming at the same time, which arrive at the post offices after processing in the sorting centre of Latvijas Pasts and which have to be delivered to a large number of customers simultaneously. At the same time the possibilities for serving customers at post offices are decreasing: the number of people allowed to be served on site and, consequently, the number of cash register systems has been reduced at several dozens of post offices due to the security requirements.

To address this issue and ensure the fastest possible delivery of postal items, Latvijas Pasts started the installation of new parcel lockers at the busiest post offices of Latvijas Pasts back in February. Currently the parcel lockers offering the pick-up of items are available at 15 post offices or next to them: at Riga post office No. 83 at 1a Dzirciema Street, at the post centre Jelgava at 2b Katoļu Street, at Ogre post office No. 1 at 38 Brīvības Street, next to Riga post office No. 57 at 2 Prūšu Street, in the premises of the shopping centre Rimi at 31 Daugavas Street, Mārupe, next to Riga post office No. 29 at 9 Ruses Street, at Riga post office No. 11 at 20 Marijas Street, at Riga post office No. 21 at 7 Ulbrokas Street, at Riga post office No. 39 at 211 Brīvības gatve, as well as at Riga post offices No. 35 and 58, at Jēkabpils post office No. 1, at Ulbroka’s culture centre Ulbroka Pearl, at the post centre Bauska and at Rēzekne post office No. 1.

In the near future parcel lockers will also be installed at other post offices or in their premises.

Each of the new parcel lockers, which, based on the technical parameters of the particular post office and the specifics of parcel lockers available on the market, is located either in the lobby of the post office, inside the post office or in another establishment in the vicinity of the post office, has different working hours: it can either be accessed around the clock or according to the opening hours of the respective post office or of any other establishment where it is installed.

The capacity of each of the new parcel terminals allows it to hold about 100 items at a time, and the customer will receive a text message regarding the pick-up of the item on the mobile phone if this number is indicated on the item.

Therefore, it is important to include information with a correct and functioning mobile number of the addressee, adding it to the recipient’s address.

The customers of the post offices where the parcel lockers will be located are asked to carefully read the text of the received invitation messages in order to understand whether the item can be received at the post office or should be collected from the parcel locker of the post office. Also, when receiving a repeated text message invitation, please make sure that the place of receipt of the item has not been changed to the parcel locker – this will be done if a compartment in the parcel locker has become vacant. In order to ensure the smoothest possible circulation of items at the post offices, we encourage customers to collect items from parcel lockers as soon as possible so that other customers can receive their items too.

The total number of Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers after the installation of all new lockers will amount to 80, and in addition the procurement deadline for the purchase of another 120 new outdoor parcel lockers has recently closed.
