Latvijas Pasts releases a stamp to mark the 100th anniversary of the Latvian Football Federation
On the 27th of May 2021 Latvijas Pasts issues a postage stamp and a cover to mark the 100th anniversary of the Latvian Football Federation. The new philatelic releases have been designed by the artist Ludis Danilāns. The stamp and the cover will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts https://veikals.pasts.lv/. Those interested in the first day cancellation options are invited to contact us by writing to the e-mail address: filatelija@pasts.lv.

The stamp Latvian Football Federation – 100 has a print run of 50,000 copies and its face value is €1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies.

The philatelic releases have been designed by the artist L. Danilāns. The stamp and the cover feature silhouettes of football players and the logo of the centenary of the Latvian Football Federation.

The Latvian Football Federation was established on the 19th of June 1921, and it is the only football association in Latvia recognised by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The Football Federation is responsible for the development of football in the country, and it also has the right to represent Latvia in FIFA, UEFA and other sports institutions. The organisation has the exclusive right to organise and hold football competitions at all levels.

“We are pleased and at the same time greatly honoured to issue the second stamp dedicated to the sports theme this year. This time the philatelic releases are related to one of the most popular and most played team sports in the world – football – and its developments in Latvia, marking the 100th anniversary of the Latvian Football Federation. Thanks to the postage stamp, we will carry the name of Latvia and the achievements of our athletes out into the world, as well as celebrate the centenary of Latvian football,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

According to Vadims Ļašenko, President of the Latvian Football Federation: “Latvian football and the Latvian Football Federation as an organisation developing this sport can be proud of its eventful history: the proof of this fact is the 100 years since the establishment of the organisation. Over time the Latvian Football Federation has become an important gear in the Latvian sports mechanism, while football has proven to be the most popular sport in the country with ambitions to become the leading sport in many other value scales as well. Thank you to Latvijas Pasts, which has shown appreciation to the historical significance of the centenary of the federation, dedicating a special postage stamp to this fact.”
