In order to speed up the item delivery process at the busiest post offices, where the number of items has increased significantly, but on-site customer service options have been reduced due to security requirements, Latvijas Pasts has opened the second item delivery tent. It is located near Riga post office No. 82 at 120 A. Deglava Street: the special item delivery tent offers the collection of all types of items, except for cash-on-delivery items and those subject to customs clearance, which will continue to be delivered at the post office. A mobile text message will be sent to the customer about the pick-up of the item from the item delivery tent. Therefore, we urge customers to pay very close attention to the contents of the invitation text message in order to understand whether the item should be received at the tent or at the post office.
Since the Christmas period last year, which traditionally demonstrated an increase in the number of items and during which the number of items delivered in one day reached a record figure of 42,000 units, the number of items at Latvijas Pasts has continued to grow steadily. Currently about 50,000 items on average are delivered at the post offices of Latvijas Pasts on a working day, but a significant number of items at the post offices tend to accumulate without customers collecting them, thus hindering both the acceptance and processing of subsequent items and their delivery to other customers.
As delivery of items at the post offices is complicated due to security requirements on account of COVID-19, Latvijas Pasts has started to place special tents for item delivery outside the busiest post offices: the first tent is already serving customers near Riga post office No. 21 at 7 Ulbrokas Street, and the second one has started operating next to Riga post office No. 82 at 120 A. Deglava Street. The item delivery tents are open Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 9 PM and on Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM. They offer the collection of all types of items, except for items subject to customs clearance and cash-on-delivery items, which will continue to be delivered at the specific post office.
A relevant mobile text message will be sent from Latvijas Pasts to the customer of post office No. 82 about the collection of the item not in the premises of the post office, but in the item delivery tent. Therefore, we urge customers to always indicate a correct and functioning mobile phone number when processing items, as well as to pay close attention to the content of the text message, which indicates the place of the collection of the item: the post office or the delivery tent.
Latvijas Pasts will continue to diversify item delivery options and create both item delivery tents and other delivery points depending on the technical and coordination possibilities in specific areas. Special parcel delivery lockers have already been installed in or next to 17 post offices, reducing the need to use the labour of post office operators or the need to spend time in the premises of the post office.
The volume of inbound items at Latvijas Pasts has increased significantly this year. In May 2021 Latvijas Pasts delivers about 50,000 items to customers every working day on average, which is more than the average in December last year, during the busiest period for postal establishments, when about 30,000 items were delivered per day, while a record of 42,000 items per day was reached at the end of December. Already in April 2021 the average number of items delivered at the post offices was about 40,000 items per day.
Meanwhile, approximately 100 cash register systems of Latvijas Pasts that previously served customers are not currently operating due to security reasons, thus reducing both the flow of service and the speed in the post office network.
