No changes in the operations of Latvijas Pasts are expected after the administrative and territorial reform; customers in municipalities are asked to check and update addresses

As a result of the administrative and territorial reform, no changes are expected in the operations of Latvijas Pasts: the company will continue to deliver postal items in accordance with the currently valid areas of address postal codes, and no changes are planned in them. The only change affecting customers will be the need to indicate different names of the municipalities subject to the amalgamation when filling in the recipients’ addresses. Latvijas Pasts urges customers to make appropriate changes to the address records of the recipients in the municipalities affected by the reform, including in the user accounts in online stores, so that Latvijas Pasts can process items faster and more accurately. Other components in the address record will not change.

No changes are expected in the operations of Latvijas Pasts after the administrative and territorial reform and the municipal elections of 2021: as before, the company will continue to deliver postal items in accordance with the established postal code areas, where changes are not planned. The location of the places of provision of postal services in line with the applicable regulatory framework is linked to the smallest administrative unit: a city or parish, not a municipality.

The only change that will affect customers will be the need to indicate the exact name of the municipality in regard to the addresses that will be affected by the amalgamation processes. Other components of the address, such as the names of cities and parishes and the postal code, will not change in address records after the reform.

However, following the administrative and territorial reform, Latvijas Pasts calls on all users of postal services – both individuals and legal entities – to take care of the correct records of their own and their customers’ addresses if the respective municipality changes as a result of the reform. The maximum accurate address record will help to process items faster without hindering the overall mail exchange processes.

It is important for individuals to check and change their address, indicating the new municipality, for example, in user accounts created in online stores, and to remember the correct record when placing new orders on other websites, including, for example, when subscribing to press.

Meanwhile, legal entities that send correspondence further to their clients need to arrange the database of client addresses in time, updating the address records in accordance with the new municipality borders after the administrative and territorial reform.

Latvijas Pasts reminds you that when filling in the address of the post item, the following information must be indicated: name/surname of the addressee or name of the legal entity, street, house and apartment number or house name, city/parish, municipality and postal code.

If the item is to be delivered to the addressee against a signature, it is important that the addressee’s name and surname are indicated accurately and legibly, as in this case the identity of the recipient will be verified by asking to show an ID.

Latvia will have 42 municipalities instead of the current 119 after the 2021 municipal elections. This is provided for in the Law on Administrative Territories and Populated Areas, which entered into force on the 23rd of June 2020.
