More than 50 young people are acquiring their first work skills at Latvijas Pasts during the summer season

In the summer season of 2021 Latvijas Pasts has provided 52 young people in the Riga, Latgale and Zemgale regions with the opportunity to gain their first work experience. The company employs pupils and students in the item handling and delivery processes of Latvijas Pasts both in the central sorting complex and at the post offices and item delivery points, enabling them to acquire the skills of an item processing specialist, postal operator or postman.

As in previous years, this year Latvijas Pasts also provides an opportunity for pupils and students to gain their first work experience by acquiring skills in the postal sector. A total of 52 young people are currently employed in Riga, Daugavpils, Jelgava and Rēzekne, working in the central sorting complex of Latvijas Pasts and at a number of post offices and item delivery points.

The young people employed at the post offices and delivery points process, issue and deliver items, as well as provide assistance in various other day-to-day tasks, while the work in the central sorting complex mainly involves the processing of e-commerce items.

The work of the young people during the summer period is a challenge and a test not only for the young assistants, but also for the employer. Before getting down to fulfilment of their responsibilities, significant attention is paid to instructing young people on specific professional issues and occupational safety.

Anda Ozola, Member of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “It is a true joy for us that the interest of young people regarding the work at Latvijas Pasts during the summer is very active every year, because pupils and students express a desire to work for us in summer even for several years in a row. This indicates that Latvijas Pasts is an appealing and attractive workplace from the young people’s point of view, while for us it is an opportunity to get to know the youth’s profile and their motivation to work and build future plans. The postal sector is sufficiently broad, as our company covers about 150 different occupations, from which everyone can select the most suitable one and start a career.”

For several years now Latvijas Pasts has been providing young people with an opportunity to get to know the specifics of the postal sector, making it possible for them to earn their first salary and gain work experience.
