Latvijas Pasts launches procurement for the full-service lease of up to 344 postman cars for item delivery across Latvia

Latvijas Pasts has launched procurement for at least 200, but depending on the results of the procurement – up to 344 – full-service lease of company cars for postman intended for the delivery of postal items throughout Latvia. Supplementing the car fleet to ensure more efficient delivery of items, the new cars will be of particular help to postmen in areas where the universal postal service is provided at customers’ places of residence. The fuel consumption indicator will be an important criterion in the procurement, promoting more environmentally friendly postal deliveries.

Latvijas Pasts has launched procurement for a significant addition to its car fleet, envisaging the full-service lease of at least 200 new company cars for the daily operations of postmen. Depending on the tender offers submitted, it is planned that the number of new cars intended for postmen may reach up to 344 units.

Based on the size of the service area and other parameters, such as whether deliveries are made in rural areas or in the areas of detached houses or apartment buildings, postal items are delivered on foot, by bicycle or by motorised transport: cars or scooters. Motorised vehicles are mainly used for the delivery of items in regional areas where the population density is low and the distances between the recipients at homesteads may amount to dozens of kilometres.

Customers in rural areas often take the opportunity to apply for the receipt of postal services directly at their places of residence, as this is more convenient and cost-effective, especially in cases where they do not have their own private vehicle, but public transport is infrequent. In addition, this way of receiving postal services provides additional security in the conditions of COVID-19, as there is no need to visit the post office in person.

Therefore, the expansion of the car fleet with new postman cars will facilitate more efficient universal postal service delivery, especially in the regions, ensuring the continuity of postal services and the possibility of attracting new employees.

The planned amount of the procurement reaches EUR 5.5 million, including the full-service lease of passenger cars for five years, which involves maintenance and inspections, repairs, tyre change and OCTA/CASCO insurance for the entire lease period.

In order to promote more environmentally friendly delivery of postal items, an important criterion in the procurement is the car’s fuel consumption indicator, assessing its economic aspects.

In recent years, Latvijas Pasts has been actively implementing various projects aimed at renovation of the infrastructure and modernisation of technical facilities.
