With the purchase of 85 new cargo vans Latvijas Pasts improves the delivery quality and employee convenience

Continuing to improve the working environment and upgrade the car fleet for more efficient provision of the universal postal service and express mail deliveries, Latvijas Pasts has purchased 85 new cargo vans. The new delivery vans are more convenient for loading and unloading cargo, and they are equipped with a special built-in digital system, which makes it easier for the drivers to complete their daily trip tickets. The vans of the latest generation replace the vehicles that have been used for four to nine years, thus improving both the delivery speed and the drivers’ working conditions.

One of the tasks set by Latvijas Pasts is to improve the speed of services, and an essential factor in achieving this goal is also the safety and ease of operation of the vehicles used for the delivery of postal items. From all postal businesses operating in the country, Latvijas Pasts is the only one that ensures the exchange of the universal postal service and express mail items in the entire national territory every weekday. Therefore, the car fleet required for deliveries is regularly renewed and replaced, improving both the working conditions of the employees engaged in deliveries and speeding up the delivery of items.

All of the 85 new vans are more spacious than the ones used previously and are more comfortable to operate. Some of the vans which are intended for the delivery of express mail items are equipped with a lift platform, facilitating the delivery of bulky cargo and heavy items. An important novelty is the special digital system built into the vans, so that the drivers and couriers no longer have to draw up their trip tickets themselves, relieving them of extra manual work and saving time resources.

“The operation of Latvijas Pasts is unthinkable without high-quality delivery transport; therefore, we pay substantial attention to this part of our work, regularly renewing the car fleet intended for item deliveries. With each purchase of a newer generation of road transport units, the convenience for drivers and couriers improves, because, firstly, road transport becomes more modern and, secondly, we increasingly listen to our employees’ feedback and wishes regarding working conditions and technical solutions to ensure faster and better quality deliveries,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

The vans have been selected in a public procurement procedure, which provides for a four-year lease using an operating lease service. Lease costs for the whole period are 1.2 million euro.

The entire car fleet of Latvijas Pasts currently consists of more than 260 vehicle units.

In recent years Latvijas Pasts has been actively implementing improvements in the quality and speed of services, customer service and employee motivation and renewing the equipment and the infrastructure needed for work.
