Latvijas Pasts continues to operate and provide services after the 15th of November; some post offices are operating according to a changed schedule

In accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, Latvijas Pasts continues to operate and provide services after the 15th of November 2021, complying with the security requirements in place in the country. Some post offices continue to work according to a changed schedule. Due to the spread of COVID-19, delays in service and delivery of items are still possible; therefore, Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding if they have to wait outside the post office for their turn or if it takes longer than usual to receive the service. Latvijas Pasts encourages customers to use the company’s mobile application, which makes it possible to apply for the service remotely and show up at the post office just in time for receiving the needed service.

Following the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, Latvijas Pasts continues to operate and provide services. Customers do not have to show an interoperable certificate at the post offices, except at those located in shopping centres. It is mandatory to wear a face mask and keep a distance of two metres when visiting a post office, and customers with symptoms of respiratory illness are not allowed to visit a post office.

Due to the restrictions imposed on the operation of shopping centres, the post offices located in shopping centres are operating according to the opening hours of the relevant shopping centres. Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers set forth that shopping centres may only be visited by those who hold an interoperable COVID-19 certificate of vaccination or recovery.

During the state of emergency the opening hours of several post offices in Riga, Kurzeme, Latgale and Zemgale have also been changed. Customers can get acquainted with all current changes in the business hours of Latvijas Pasts post offices in the section Changes in working hours on the company’s website.

Taking into account the security requirements established in the country, both the number of visitors to be served on site simultaneously and the number of cash register systems operating at the post offices have been reduced. As 15 square metres must be ensured per customer served at a post office, Latvijas Pasts had to bring down the number of active cash register systems by more than 70 across the country, while the number of customers served at the post offices at the same time has been reduced by more than 100 visitors. Latvijas Pasts urges customers to be understanding if they have to wait outside the post office for their turn or if it takes longer than usual to receive the service.

The negative effects of the COVID-19 virus affect the provision of services in other ways too. As a result of the infection and the expansion of the number of contact persons, Latvijas Pasts may have to temporarily replace its customer service and delivery staff, thus burdening other structural units from where temporary employees are brought on, or looking for new employees temporarily. Considering that the process of replacement of staff takes place on the go, as it involves the immediate implementation of epidemiological security measures, new staff – postmen or post office operators – are trained right on the job, which leads to slower service and delivery of items.

In order to avoid spending more time than necessary at a post office, Latvijas Pasts encourages you to make maximum use of the company’s mobile application, which allows you to apply for the service remotely and show up at the post office just in time for receiving your service, as well as to redirect items to any of the parcel lockers of Latvijas Pasts. You can apply for services remotely in 86 largest and busiest post offices throughout Latvia; the list of these post offices is available here.

Latvijas Pasts continues to assess the optimal provision of post office operations and delivery of items in the future, taking into account the state of emergency.
