Latvijas Pasts invites customers to send cash using a fast and secure cash transfer service

Taking into account that it is prohibited to place cash in postal items worldwide in accordance with the Universal Postal Convention and the competent authorities may confiscate this illegal item at any stage of delivery, Latvijas Pasts encourages customers to choose a fast and secure cash transfer service for sending cash. Latvijas Pasts also provides a number of other financial services: the most popular is the payment account with the Postal Settlement System (PSS). Post offices offer the opportunity to pay all types of bills, make transfers to the accounts of legal entities or private individuals in domestic or foreign credit institutions and receive other financial services.

It is prohibited to place money in postal items: this prohibition is set forth in the Universal Postal Convention and integrated accordingly in Section 24 of the Postal Law of the Republic of Latvia. Upon detection of prohibited goods and articles, including money, the competent authorities may confiscate them at any stage of delivery. Latvijas Pasts invites customers to choose the domestic, cross-border or Western Union cash transfer service offered by Latvijas Pasts for sending cash, which ensures fast and secure delivery of money to the recipient.

Cash can be sent by domestic transfer to the recipient using the Poste Restante service at the post office or by delivery to a specific address throughout Latvia. Domestic cash transfers are sent on the same day, and this service can be processed at any post office convenient for the customer or using the postman's services at the customer’s place of residence. In turn, sending cross-border and Western Union cash transfers depends on the conditions for sending money in each specific country. More information about cash transfer services is available here

Latvijas Pasts also provides a variety of other financial services: the post offices offer the opportunity to pay all types of bills, deposit money to one’s own payment account or the account of another Latvijas Pasts customer, make transfers to the accounts of legal entities or private individuals in domestic or foreign credit institutions, service transactions on accounts and receive other financial services. In the regions outside big cities, the post office is often the only place where services related to financial transactions are available.

A payment account with the PSS is the most popular financial service in post offices. In order to open a PSS account, the customer must go to the post office bringing along his or her passport or ID card. The opening of an account is free of charge. Holding a payment account in the post office provides a convenient way to receive salaries, pensions, benefits and other payments, make transfers to the accounts of legal entities or private individuals in the post offices, as well as credit institutions in Latvia and abroad, deposit and withdraw cash from one’s account, pay bills for rent, utilities and other services. Detailed information is available here

A convenient way to get a cash pay-out from a PSS account at the place of residence is through the intermediary of a postman. This solution is especially easy and friendly for senior citizens who have difficulty getting to a post office outside their place of residence and for whom it is especially relevant in the context of COVID-19. In order to receive cash from a PSS account with home delivery, the service must be requested by contacting Latvijas Pasts Customer Centre by phone: +371 27008001 or +371 67008001.
