Latvijas Pasts holds a meeting of postcard sending enthusiasts on the 15th of July – there will be a special stamp and a postcard

Latvijas Pasts is holding a meeting of Latvian postcard senders and participants of the international Postcrossing movement in a creative atmosphere, planning to present the company’s current developments and give the participants the chance to meet Anita Paegle, a well-known Latvian artist and illustrator of children’s books, who has also designed several stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts. During the meeting, Latvijas Pasts will present a personalised stamp and a postcard created especially for the event. As usual, postcrossers will be able to send postcards to a pen pal around the world. The event will take place in the main building of Latvijas Pasts at 10 Ziemeļu Street, Riga International Airport, Mārupe Municipality on the 15th of July 2022.

To promote the sending of postcards and its modern trends as well as to present the current developments in the operations of Latvijas Pasts, a traditional meeting of postcard sending enthusiasts and members of the global Postcrossing movement is being organised after a short break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting of postcard senders will take place in a creative atmosphere, inviting everyone who likes to send and receive postcards from around the world to join in. Latvijas Pasts has prepared a specially designed postcard and a personalised stamp, which every participant will be able to send to a pen pal. During the meeting, Anita Paegle, a well-known illustrator of children's books and also the designer of a number of Latvijas Pasts stamps, will share her creative experience.

Participation in the international Postcrossing movement can make everyday life more interesting, because by means of the Internet any participant of the project can receive and send tangible postcards from and to different parts of the world. A new participant can send his or her first postcard by getting registered on the website www.postcrossing.com and receiving the postal address of an unknown addressee. When sending the card, the sender can be sure that he or she will get at least one postcard in return from a postcrosser who, perhaps, lives halfway around the world. When the postcard has been received, it should be registered on www.postcrossing.com, and the search for the next pen pal can begin.

The international Postcrossing movement involves over 802,600 people from more than 200 countries of the world. Residents of Latvia are also active postcrossers –their number today is over 3,000 people who have sent approximately 362,000 postcards. This means that Latvia is ranked 28th in the world in terms of the number of cards sent as part of the project.

Postcard sending enthusiasts and members of the global Postcrossing movement at Latvijas Pasts have been brought together since 2011. Latvijas Pasts has also been a participant of the Postcrossing movement since 2010 – part of the postcards received by us can be viewed here.

Postcard sending enthusiasts are invited to apply for participation in the event by writing to the e-mail address: pr@pasts.lv.
