Latvijas Pasts launches procurement for the development of the construction design of a new postal item sorting centre building

With a view to introducing new services, enhancing the quality of the services provided so far and customer care, as well as improving the comfort and working environment of its employees, Latvijas Pasts is planning the construction of a new postal item processing and sorting building. It will be located next to the existing centre at Riga International Airport, 10 Ziemeļu Street, Mārupe Municipality and provide for the use of modern solutions to ensure maximum energy efficiency. Latvijas Pasts has launched procurement for the development of the construction design and for the design supervision of the centre building, intending to set up storage and office space in the new premises in addition to the automated sorting line, on an area totalling almost 8,000 square metres.

Continuing the smarter organisation of postal item processing and forwarding processes, as well as ensuring the necessary infrastructure for the development of the existing and new services, Latvijas Pasts is planning an ambitious expansion of the postal item processing centre, envisaging the construction of a new building to secure the processing and sorting processes, as well as to set up storage and office space. Latvijas Pasts has launched procurement for the development of the construction design and for the design supervision of the new building.

“In recent years, Latvijas Pasts has actively developed services such as provision of the transit item flow between different countries of the world, commercial cargo transportation in the Baltic states and expansion of the segment of parcel locker items. These are the areas of services in which a further increase in demand is expected; therefore, the creation of appropriate infrastructure is necessary, promoting the growth of these and other services in a long-term development perspective,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

The expected total usable area for processing items in the new building of the centre will reach 5,600 square metres, while storage and office space will occupy approximately 2,000 square metres. It is planned to use technical solutions in all rooms in order to improve the energy efficiency of the building, such as lighting with photo sensors, adjustable individual lighting above each workplace, an automated conditioning system, ventilation with recuperation, etc. Ramps for loading and unloading items are designed with systems that would ensure the control of warm and cold air circulation. The access to the ramps is supposed to be built at an angle that would ensure convenient and high-quality loading and unloading of items.

It is also planned to improve the area adjacent to the building by constructing hard road surface zones for ensuring the movement of motor transport, manoeuvring of vehicles and convenient location of parking spaces for the light vehicles of the staff.

It is possible to get more information on the procurement launched by Latvijas Pasts for the development of the construction design and for the design supervision of the postal item processing and sorting centre building in the Mercell procurement system.
