As the global e-commerce sales marathon approaches, Latvijas Pasts advises customers to check out their purchases correctly

The most popular and broad-scale global e-commerce shopping days of the year traditionally take place in November: the 11th of November marks the start of Double 11, the largest online shopping festival in the world, the 25th of November is Black Friday, which is the most popular sales event around the globe, and the 28th of November is Cyber Monday when goods are sold out by technology companies. Latvijas Pasts encourages customers to check out their purchases correctly, reminding them that customs procedures may apply when receiving an item from a third country. However, if the seller is a member of the IOSS or Import One Stop Shop scheme, the value added tax is paid at the time of purchase, and the postal company will handle the customs clearance.

November is the month when the most popular and broad-scale global e-commerce shopping days of the year traditionally take place. The first of the sales days will take place already this Friday, the 11th of November, when the discount marathon begins, during which several dozens of thousands of brands will offer their goods at a favourable price. This is also the day when AliExpress’s biggest sale of the year starts, allowing customers to purchase goods at a lower price.

Black Friday, the most popular sales event in the world, will take place on the 25th of November this year. Customers in Latvia and all over the world take advantage of favourable discounts to purchase long-desired goods on this day.

In turn, Cyber Monday on the 28th of November is the day of the global sales of electronics, when technology companies offer special deals on tech goods.

Latvijas Pasts reminds you that when making a purchase, the accurate address must be specified: make sure that the street name, house or apartment number as well as the postal code are written correctly. If an incorrect postal code is specified on an item, the item will reach the addressee sooner or later, but it will travel longer as items are primarily sorted based on the postal code specified. When placing an order for shipping, Latvijas Pasts encourages customers to always include the recipient’s correct mobile phone number. The mobile phone numbers indicated on the postal items are not used for any other purpose and serve only to inform the customer of the receipt of the item.

Our recommendation is to choose a traceable, registered/signed for and/or insured delivery option for your item so you can track its location and status. Such items are assigned a unique number in the global postal system, consisting of a 13-digit code with two letters at the beginning and at the end and digits in the middle, for example, AB123456789CD. Such an item can be tracked either through the item tracking system of Latvijas Pasts or through the relevant country’s item tracking system.

Latvijas Pasts reminds you that purchases made outside the European Union, including low-value purchases, must be cleared through customs, and this must be done by each recipient individually. A detailed explanation of customs clearance options can be found on Latvijas Pasts website under the Customs section.

Latvijas Pasts asks customers to keep in mind that when ordering goods from AliExpress and other third-country online stores that have joined the IOSS or Import One Stop Shop scheme, value added tax is paid at the time of purchase. This means that the customer can order the item with peace of mind, since customs clearance is handled by Latvijas Pasts or another postal delivery company.
