The last working day of the post centre Sakta is the 30th of December 2022; customers are welcome to visit Riga post offices No. 10, 11 and 50
The last working day of the post centre Sakta will be Friday, the 30th of December 2022, when the centre will be open until 7 PM. In the new year of 2023, Sakta’s existing customers will be served by the three nearest post offices in the centre of Riga: post offices No. 10, 11 and 50. Because of the rapid increase in maintenance costs of the post centre Sakta, the decrease in the number of in-person customers and the optimisation of internal processes by the company, Latvijas Pasts has made a decision about the reorganisation of the post centre Sakta, terminating the service provision in its premises.

The last working day of the post centre Sakta will be the 30th of December, when the customers will be served from 8 AM to 7 PM. In 2023, the provision of services to Sakta’s existing customers will be taken over by three other post offices located less than one kilometre away from Sakta: Riga post office No. 10 at 41/43 Elizabetes Street, Riga post office No. 11 at 20 Marijas Street and Riga post office No. 50 in the shopping centre Origo at 2 Stacijas laukums. From the 2nd January 2023, the post office boxes used in the post centre Sakta will be available to customers in Riga post office No. 11. Meanwhile, some of the employees of the post centre Sakta will continue to work in other post offices of Latvijas Pasts.

The post centre Sakta is one of four post offices in the historical centre of Riga, all located within a short distance of each other. In the last three years, Sakta has seen a 70% decrease in the flow of customers as a result of changes in habits of the population and the possibility to use a range of services remotely, significantly reducing the need to visit the post office in person.

At the same time, due to rapid inflation and an increase in energy prices, the post centre Sakta has experienced significant increases in its maintenance costs, which have risen several times. Also, the layout of the post centre’s two-storey premises of 281 sq m in size prevents the entire facility from being used effectively for customer service.

Therefore, a decision was made to reorganise Sakta, terminating the provision of postal services in its premises and continuing their provision in three other nearby post offices. It should be noted that unlike post offices with the postal item delivery function, Sakta does not provide item delivery, which means that there is no specific customer group assigned to it.

The number and locations of the post offices in Riga are determined by the Decision of the Public Utilities Commission’s Council on Determining the Universal Postal Service Obligations, which stipulates that Latvijas Pasts must provide at least 25 permanent post offices in Riga City. Latvijas Pasts complies with these conditions by providing postal services in 33 post offices.
