Representatives of Latvijas Pasts will participate in the opening of an international philatelic exhibition in support of Ukraine in Kyiv

An international philatelic exhibition will be opened at the central office of the Ukrainian postal company Ukrposhta in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine on the 5th of April 2023. It will feature stamp releases dedicated to Ukraine from fifteen countries. Latvijas Pasts was the first company to issue a block of stamps in support of Ukraine in March 2022. Representatives of Latvijas Pasts – Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board and Andris Eglājs, Director of International Affairs – will also attend the opening of the exhibition in Kyiv.

Latvijas Pasts was the first postal company in the world to issue a stamp block and a special cover in support of Ukraine on the 10th of March 2022, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The stamp block consists of three stamps and an explanatory coupon, featuring the national flags of Ukraine and Latvia, Ukraine's Independence Monument in Kyiv and Latvia’s Freedom Monument in Riga. The stamp block has inscriptions in Ukrainian and Latvian saying We Are with You! and Glory to Ukraine!

The stamp block issued by Latvijas Pasts is included in the international philatelic exhibition organised by the Ukrainian postal establishment Ukrposhta, showcasing stamps dedicated to the support of Ukraine. At the moment, the exhibition can be viewed virtually – here – but on the 5th of April, it will be opened in a real environment in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, in the central office of the Ukrainian postal company Ukrposhta. Representatives of Latvijas Pasts will also attend the opening of the exhibition in Kyiv.

“When we released the block of stamps in support of Ukraine, we did not realise that postal companies of other countries would also follow our example: we did it out of feeling and desire to provide support and show our solidarity with our Ukrainian colleagues and the entire Ukrainian nation. Our best contribution could be made by providing help in the way and format in which we are professionals: both by going on with ensuring the continuity of postal exchanges with Ukraine, and by creating a special block of stamps to support Ukraine. By selling the stamp block, half of the proceeds are donated to support Ukraine, so we have already transferred nearly 18,000 euro to Ziedot.lv, thanks to the activity of our customers. Our admiration for the resilience and courage of the Ukrainians will continue, and for our part, we will do everything in our power to continue to provide support. Glory to Ukraine!” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, reveals.

The philatelic releases dedicated to supporting Ukraine – stamps, a coupon and a cover – form a single patriotic composition depicting the symbols of independence of both countries: the Independence Monument in Kyiv and the Freedom Monument in Riga, the national flags of Ukraine and Latvia, and inscriptions in Ukrainian and Latvian: We Are with You! and Glory to Ukraine! The print run of the stamp block is 20,000 copies, and the print run of the cover is 800 copies.

The face value of each of the stamps included in the block is €1.44, and they can be used as postage in combination with stamps of other face values. For example, two stamps worth a total of €2.88 can be used to send ordinary letters weighing up to 20 grams to any country. The philatelic releases dedicated to the support of Ukraine have been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva.

The stamp block is available for purchase at the post offices and in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts, which is the most convenient way of buying stamps, as it offers deliveries by courier to any address most suitable for the customer, as well as to Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers and post offices throughout Latvia.
