Customers of Riga post office No. 46 will have changes to their postal code and post office from the 25th of August 2023

In view of the termination of the lease cooperation for the premises of Riga post office No. 46, which coincides with the time when customers increasingly choose the rapidly growing parcel locker network of Latvijas Pasts to collect their postal items, a decision has been made that the last working day of Riga post office No. 46 will be the 25th of August 2023. After this date, customers of Riga post office No. 46 will be able to collect their postal items from three parcel lockers in this area, which will be supplemented with another parcel locker in August. The items that do not fit parcel lockers will be delivered at the nearby Riga post offices No. 29 and 83. Also, residents whose nearest and most convenient option is Riga post office No. 83 will be assigned a new postal code, replacing the current LV-1046 with LV-1083.

In accordance with the obligations set by the Public Utilities Commission, Latvijas Pasts must ensure the operation of 25 post offices in Riga – Latvijas Pasts complies with these criteria in full, and so far 31 offices have been operating in Riga. However, as customers’ habits change and more and more in-person visits to the post office are replaced by receiving postal items in the fast-growing parcel locker network of Latvijas Pasts, the need for maintaining such a large number of post offices also decreases.

The operation of Riga post office No. 46 at 48 Kalnciema Street is hampered by unsettled property relations, and, in addition, the number of in-person visits has been decreasing in recent years, as customers are increasingly using the option of remote collection of items in the extensive parcel locker network of Latvijas Pasts. There are currently three Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers available in the area of Riga post office No. 46: at 45 Apuzes Street, at 41 Kalnciema Street and at 13 Jaunmoku Street, while yet another parcel locker is planned to be installed this summer at 38 Kalnciema Street.

Therefore, adapting to the actual demand for the services and future consumption forecasts, a decision has been made that the last working day of Riga post office No. 46 will be the 25th of August 2023, when the post office will work until 11 AM. After this date, customers in the area of Riga post office No. 46 will be able to collect their items from one of the nearest Latvijas Pasts parcel lockers, but in cases where it is not possible to deliver them through the parcel lockers, the items, taking into account the convenience of customers and the distance of their place of residence to the post office, will be delivered at Riga post office No. 29 at 9 Ruses Street or Riga post office No. 83 at 1A Dzirciema Street. These post offices are open every working day, Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 7 PM.

All other postal services can also be conveniently received at any other Riga post office. Financial services associated with the Postal Payments System (PNS), including the receipt of pensions and benefits, are not tied to a specific post office – the customer can receive them at any post office regardless of the location throughout the country.

Also, promoting the accessibility of postal services for residents of the mentioned area and the efficiency of delivery of items, the postal code will be changed for some of the addresses of the said area. The postal code will remain the same for residents whose nearest postal services point is Riga post office No. 29, while the postal code LV-1046 will be replaced by LV-1083 for the addressees whose most convenient point to receive postal services is Riga post office No. 83.

The exact list of addresses for which the postal code is being changed is available here. The address and postal code can also be checked in the section Check an address of the Latvijas Pasts website.

Latvijas Pasts urges residents of these addresses to pay attention to the changes and to use the changed postal code LV-1083 from the 25th of August 2023 in communication, when sending all kinds of items, as well as when taking out subscriptions to press. Customers are also asked to inform the senders of items about the changed postal code: if an incorrect postal code is indicated, the item will reach the addressee, but with a delay, as all items are primarily sorted according to the postal code.

All customers of Riga post office No. 46 will be informed about the changes in receiving postal services from the 25th of August with special notices in their letter-boxes starting from the 25th of July.
