Holders of the name Jānis will receive most greetings on Father's Day this year again; the majority of postcards outside Riga will travel to Jelgava

Greetings within the traditional Father’s Day postcard sending campaign organised by Latvijas Pasts are now on their way to addressees all over Latvia. As in previous years, most greeting postcards have been sent to fathers called Jānis, but those called Andris and Edgars are also in the top three recipients of postcards. Until Father's Day, the 10th of September, greeting postcards will be delivered free of charge to a total of 10,000 fathers throughout Latvia. Outside Riga, most holiday postcards will go to Jelgava, Valmiera, and Tukums.

Most greetings, as every year, have been addressed to the holders of the most popular male name in Latvia, Jānis, – 801 postcards, followed by a significant margin, as last year, by Andris with 322 postcards and Edgars with 265 postcards. Holiday greetings in the form of postcards will also be received by dads called Mārtiņš – 247 postcards, Juris – 235 postcards, Māris – 218 postcards, Kaspars – 171 postcards, Artūrs – 147 postcards, Valdis – 142 postcards, Kristaps – 134 postcards and many other dads with various names.

Outside the capital Riga where dads will receive more than 2,000 postcards, most postcards will go to dads in Jelgava – 575 postcards, Valmiera – 394 postcards, and Tukums – 390 postcards. The first top ten cities where dads will get the most postcards also include Liepāja (372), Bauska (365), Cēsis (313), Jēkabpils (292), Talsi (277) and Ogre (277).

This is the ninth year that Latvijas Pasts has called on everyone to greet dads with a special greeting on Father’s Day by logging in through their Facebook or Google accounts on the website www.nosutipastkarti.lv and sending one of the postcards prepared by Latvijas Pasts. Postcards will be received promptly by all recipients in the Republic of Latvia with the accurately specified address, including a correct postal code; otherwise, the postcard may travel longer to the recipient. To make sure that the postcode is correct, an address verification tool has been integrated into the postcard-sending website.

By combining the old tradition of sending postcards with the possibilities offered by modern digital technology, Latvijas Pasts has been organizing postcard-sending campaigns on social networks since 2011. The most popular of them are dedicated to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
