SJSC Latvijas Pasts and Lietuvos paštas have entered into a memorandum on mutual long-term cooperation. The letter of intent will enable the parcel locker networks of both companies to be accessed and used on both sides, ensuring a more convenient service experience in the Baltics.
This means that soon customers of Latvijas Pasts would have the option to send and receive parcels using pan-Baltic Unisend parcel locker network.
Unisend, parcel delivery network by Lithuanian Post, soon will consist of around 750 parcel lockers in the region, with around 300 of them being in Latvia and Estonia.
Likewise, customers of Unisend will be able to use Latvijas Pasts parcel locker coverage when sending to Latvia.
The mentioned model of cooperation between Latvian and Lithuanian postal service providers is set to be operational in autumn 2024.
On behalf of Latvijas Pasts, the partnership was signed by Beāte Krauze-Čebotare, CEO of Latvijas Pasts, and on the part of the neighbouring country, it was signed by Rolandas Zukas, CEO of Lietuvos paštas.
“We are pleased that the idea has become a reality for the two cooperation partners. Customers of both companies will benefit from a joint network of parcel lockers, which will be the biggest in Latvia. Considering that over 70% of people in the Baltics shop online, we believe that the companies of both countries working towards a single goal will open new opportunities for every sender and receiver of parcels,” Beāte Krauze-Čebotare, CEO of Latvijas Pasts, emphasises.
She continues by saying that the signed agreement will strengthen the positions in the cross-border mail segment and encourage experience sharing between the companies.
“More than a decade ago, we were the first to successfully introduce parcel lockers to Lithuanian market. As e-commerce continues to grow, now we are ready to become a trusted parcel delivery partner across whole Baltic region. We believe that cooperation with Latvijas Pasts will benefit customers of both companies and help e-businesses grow by offering optimal solutions,” Rolandas Zukas, CEO of Lietuvos paštas, says.
By bringing together the expertise and knowledge of the two national postal operators, active work is currently underway to align the interoperability and functionality of the parcel locker networks. It is expected that as a result of the expanded cooperation, both companies will increase the availability of parcel lockers, ensuring high-value deliveries of items.
As Latvijas Pasts intends to expand the coverage of parcel lockers this year, with plans to double their number, and Lietuvos paštas aims to grow Unisend parcel locker network across the Baltics, the launch of the mutual network will provide customers the convenience of sending and receiving items through over 1,000 parcel lockers in all Baltic countries.
As previously reported, Latvijas Pasts is constantly improving and expanding its services in order to reinforce its position in the business segments it represents. One of the company's priorities for 2024 is to double the number of parcel lockers to 400, resulting in the largest network of parcel lockers across Latvia.
At the same time, the company is developing the e-commerce delivery and logistics business segment, as well as improving the availability of universal postal services, parcel delivery processes and customer service. Latvijas Pasts is also promoting new ways for redirecting parcels and cooperating with international e-commerce service providers to position Riga as a logistics hub.
