A stamp dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Latvia in NATO to be released

A stamp and a cover featuring a design that showcases the partnership with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will be released a day before the 20th anniversary of Latvia's full membership in the alliance. The cancellation of both releases is scheduled to take place at the Latvian War Museum from 10 AM to 5 PM on the 28th of March.

The new philatelic releases will be cancelled in an official ceremony, which will see the participation of the head of the delegation of the Republic of Latvia’s NATO accession talks and ex-President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds and Chairwoman of the Board of JSC Latvijas Pasts Beāte Krauze-Čebotare.

The visual design of the postage stamp is dominated by a symbolic logo that represents Latvia’s 20th anniversary in NATO. The print run of the stamp will reach 25,000 copies. In turn, the print run of the cover will be 500 copies, and its composition is complemented by the flags of the 32 NATO member states.

“Every stamp carries with it a unique testimony and historical events. The dedication to Latvia’s 20th anniversary in NATO is an explicit representation of the fundamental core values: freedom, security, peace and stability. The stamp will serve as a reminder of these democratic values to the recipients as it travels around the globe with the postal items,” Beāte Krauze-Čebotare, Chairwoman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, emphasises.

“Every day, we are able to observe and experience the presence and security of our allies, who safeguard our airspace while also supporting our land and sea forces. We recognise that being a member of the world’s most powerful military alliance is a great privilege, especially in these challenging times. We are presented with the opportunity to enhance our military prowess and jointly develop capabilities with our NATO partners. May this special stamp commemorating the 20th anniversary in NATO serve as a message and reminder to the world of NATO’s slogan that we are stronger together!” Andris Sprūds, Minister of Defence, points out.

The face value of the stamp is €1.97, corresponding to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 100 grams in Latvia.

The Republic of Latvia’s NATO membership is one of the brightest accomplishments in foreign policy since regaining independence. It offers assurances of security and contributes to the advancement of military capabilities. The 29th of March 2004 when Latvia became a full member state of the alliance holds great historical significance in terms of strengthening and ensuring national defence.

The new stamp and the cover dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Latvia in NATO will first be available for purchase at the post offices of the largest cities and in the e-shop of Latvijas Pasts.

The next philatelic releases are scheduled for the 12th of April.

Philatelic works issued by Latvijas Pasts are highly valued both among the customers and philatelic collectors and experts. On the basis of stringently regulated standards, international associations of collectors of philatelic materials have determined that the stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts are on par with the philatelic releases issued by the largest countries in the world. As a result, these stamps are routinely included both in the catalogues of philatelic releases recognised around the world and in the collections of prestigious collectors.
