To diversify item delivery options and enhance service availability, SJSC Latvijas Pasts has expanded its parcel locker network to 350 units.
The modernisation of Latvijas Pasts infrastructure is linked to the increase in e-commerce items and the changing habits of the public.
“We have achieved a notable milestone in the expansion of parcel lockers, as Latvijas Pasts now operates the second largest parcel locker network in Latvia. Our team is advancing this development story by increasing the number of item pick-up locations. This is a natural step, considering that contactless parcel deliveries are prevalent in online purchases,” points out Jānis Kūliņš, Member of the Board of Latvijas Pasts.
Thus, the company is actively continuing the development of the parcel locker network in Latvia. Since the start of the year, the national postal operator has expanded its parcel locker coverage by adding over 140 new self-service postal points.
“The project effectively illustrates the potential of technologies and innovations to enhance the quality and accessibility of daily services for all Latvian residents. Parcel lockers will undoubtedly remain a highly sought-after solution in the future, as they offer a superior postal experience around the clock,” says Gatis Romanovskis, the project partner and Chief Executive Officer at the automation company Hansab.
The national postal operator has also equipped all outdoor parcel lockers with a separate compartment specifically for sending letters.
The company is simultaneously upgrading its older parcel lockers to more modern models.
As previously announced, the national postal operator intends to increase its presence in both densely populated and more remote areas by installing over 200 new parcel lockers this year. This implies that Latvijas Pasts will possess one of the most extensive parcel locker networks in Latvia by the end of 2024.
The development of the parcel locker network in Latvia, alongside the automation of the processing and sorting of letters and delivery of items, is a digitisation project aimed at propelling the digital transformation of SJSC Latvijas Pasts. It is implemented by the national postal operator in cooperation with the financial institution Altum within the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) under #NextGenerationEU.
The project is scheduled to continue until the end of 2025, and as a result of its implementation, upon meeting the project’s objectives, a capital discount will be applied to the loan of Latvijas Pasts, leading to the cancellation of the principal amount of the loan, totalling EUR 1 million.
