09.12.2013

From tomorrow, December 10, 2013, until the end of the year, it will be possible to purchase euro coin starter kits worth ten lats or 14.23 euros at 302 Latvijas Pasts post offices. They are intended to allow residents to get acquainted with the Latvian euro coin designs before the adoption of the currency, as well as for cases where it is already necessary to pay with euro coins in the beginning of 2014. Each customer will be able to purchase up to five kits at once.

Starting from December 10, the euro starter kits will be available for purchase only in those post offices where it will be possible to exchange lats for euros from January 2, 2014. These 302 post offices are located in regions where bank services and ATMs are not available, and they are already identifiable by special informative stickers. The euro coin kits will also be available at the Bank of Latvia, commercial banks and their branches throughout Latvia.

The euro coin starter kit consists of two 2 euro coins, four 1 euro coins, seven 50 cent coins, eight 20 cent coins, seven 10 cent coins, five 5 cent coins, six 2 cent coins and six 1 cent coins. The weight of the kit is 230 grams, and the coin sets will be packaged in plastic bags.

The list of the post offices, as well as other important information about the services of Latvijas Pasts during the euro adoption period, is available at the special LatvijasPasts website www.eiropasts.lv.

Latvijas Pasts as the company with the most extensive service provision network in Latvia - with a total of 618 post offices throughout the country - plays a significant role in the euro adoption process in the rural regions. Pursuant to Cabinet Regulation On the postal service provision locations for exchange of lats, 302 Latvijas Pasts offices in locations where neither bank services nor ATMs are available will allow exchanging lats for euros free of charge from January 2 to March 31, 2014.
