Latvijas Pastsissues stamp Shanghai World Expo

On April 23, 2010, VAS Latvijas Pasts will hold the first day event of the newly-issued stamp Shanghai World Expo in the post office Sakta.

The stamp shows a man flying in a wind tunnel, drawing attention to Latvia's technological achievements in the field of skydiving on both a national and international level.

Latvia will be represented in the Shanghai World Expo 2010, which will take place from May 1 to October 31, by the team of SIA Aerodium.

Edmunds Bebrišs, head of the Philatelic Department of Latvijas Pasts: "In supporting the participation of Latvia in an international event - the World Expo 2010 - the Stamp Issue Commission decided to issue a stamp symbolizing our country's presentation at the exposition. The artist Juris Utāns chose to show this event by using a man's stylized flight in a wind tunnel."

The print run of the stamp Shanghai World Expo consists of 150,000 stamps; its face value is LVL 1.50, and it is intended for international postal items.

The first day ceremony with a special cancellation will take place in the post office Sakta in Riga, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The next new stamp issue is planned for the national holiday on May 4.
