Stamp issued to commemorate independence declaration of May 4

On May 4, 2010, the first day ceremony of the stamp dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia will take place in the Saeima building.

Aivars Veiss, chair of the board of VAS Latvijas Pasts: "To every person living in Latvia, the 4th of May is a special day that reminds that we have been living in a free, democratic country for 20 years now. The day of proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia significant event, which is marked by Latvijas Pasts with the issue of a special stamp."

An event will be held in the Main Vestibule of the Saeima building to mark the anniversary of proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia. At 9:00 AM, a speech will be given by Gundars Daudze, the Speaker of the Saeima, and Aivars Veiss, chair of the board of Latvijas Pasts. Cancellations of the stamp 20th Anniversary of the Declaration of 4 May 1990 will be given from 9:00 AM to 16:00 PM.

The artist Juris Utāns has depicted the flag of Latvia in the new stamp. Its print run is 500,000 stamps, face value - LVL 0.35. The stamp is intended for domestic postal items in Latvia.
