Stamp dedicated to Fire Museum
On Friday, May 21, in the post office Sakta, Latvijas Pasts will hold the first day ceremony of the stamp Fire Museum issued as part of the series Collections of Latvian Museums.
To remind about the events of the Night of Museums last week, Latvijas Pasts is issuing the stamp Collections of Latvian Museums - Fire Museum. The stamp shows the museum building and an antique fire truck in the foreground. The stamp is accompanied by a first-day-of-issue envelope and a special cancellation displaying the symbols of fire-fighting that have been preserved over many decades - the firefighter's helmet and two fire axes.
The author of design of the Fire Museum stamp is artist Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja. Its face value is LVL 0.98, print run - 150,000 stamps.
The first day event of the stamp will take place in the post office Sakta in Riga, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The Fire Museum was opened in 1978, and it offers its visitors a collection of more than 30,000 items in two floors of the building. The collection tells the story of fire-fighting in Latvia from the middle of the 19th century to present day. The Art Nouveau building in which the Fire Museum is currently situated, designed by architect Reinhold Schmeling in 1910, is a cultural monument of local significance.
Latvijas Pastshas issued the following stamps in the series Collections of Latvian Museums:National History Museum of Latvia(2009), Riga Museum of History and Navigation (2008) and Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine (2007).
The next new stamp issue is planned for June 18.
