Latvijas Pastsissues stamps to mark national holiday

On Friday, November 12, the first day ceremony of three stamps - Flag of Latvia, Coat of Arms of Latvia, and Anthem of Latvia - will take place in the Sakta post office.

The new stamps - Flag of Latvia, Coat of Arms of Latvia and Anthem of Latvia - are part of the series Republic of Latvia - 100, which was started last year. The series is dedicated to the founding of the Republic of Latvia and is a gift to every inhabitant and visitor of Latvia on the national holiday.

The stamp series depicts significant events for the Republic of Latvia from 1918 through 2018. The stamps issued this year incorporate themes of the flag, coat of arms and anthem of Latvia and the creators of these important national symbols. At least three stamps are planned to be issued each year, depicting events in politics, culture and art, as well as achievements in science and national economy.

The designer of the stamps is artist Elita Viliama. The face value of the stamp Flag of Latvia is LVL 0.35, its print run - 500,000 stamps. The stamp Coat of Arms of Latvia has a face value of LVL 0.38, Anthem of Latvia - LVL 0.98. The print run of each is 300,000.

The stamps display the national symbols - the flag, coat of arms, anthem, and their creators, as well as a red-white-red ribbon, and oak leaves.

The new stamps are accompanied by a first-day envelope and special cancellation. The envelope depicts a photo frame decorated with a ribbon in the colors of the Latvian flag and oak leaves. It frames the text Republic of Latvia - 100. Flag of Latvia, Coat of Arms of Latvia and Anthem of Latvia. The special cancellation has also been designed as a ribbon with oak leaves, three stars, and the text Republic of Latvia - 100.

The first day ceremony of the stamps dedicated to the Republic of Latvia will take place in the Sakta post office in Riga, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, from 8:00 AM o 8:00 PM.

The next new stamp issue is planned for the national holiday on November 18.
