Latvijas Pastsbegins 2011 with Rabbit stamp

On Friday, January 14, the first day event of the stamp Rabbit released in the series Domestic Animals in Latvia will take place in the Sakta post office.

Artist Ludis Danilāns has depicted in the stamp the symbol of 2011 - a rabbit, and its favorīte snack, a cabbage head. The coat of the dwarf rabbit displayed in the stamp is white with black spots. Latvijas Pasts has also issued a first-day envelope and special cancellation, also bearing images of the rabbit.

The face value of the Rabbit stamp is LVL 0.35, its print run - 400,000 stamps.

The first day cancellation event for the postage stamp will take place in the Sakta post office in Riga, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Dwarf rabbits are smaller than regular rabbits. While a regular adult rabbit weighs 5-8 kg, the weight of a dwarf rabbit ranges from only 0.9 to 2.8 kg. Not only babies, but also grown dwarf rabbits have a short nose, large eyes, and shorter ears than those of a regular rabbit. Dwarf rabbits, which are found today as pets in many families, originated from Polish Rabbits in the 19th century. Five breeds of dwarf rabbits are known in Europe.

The next new stamp issue is planned for February 25.
