Latvijas Pastsissues new stamps in united European series

Latvijas Pastshas issued two now stamps in the unified Europa series of European countries - this year they are dedicated to the forest theme, and the creator of their design is artist Edgars Folks. The first day event of the new stamps will take place on April 8 in the post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 8 AM to 8 PM.

The face value of the stamp Birch Grove, issued by Latvijas Pasts within the Europa Forests series, is LVL 0.55 (corresponds to the cost of mailing a regular letter to a European Union member state), while the face value of Spruce Forest is LVL 1.20 (corresponds to the cost of mailing a registered letter to a European Union member state). The print run of each Forest stamp consists of 150,000 stamps.

The initiator of the Europa series is PostEurop, and stamps of this series with a unified logo for the whole Europe have been issued since 1994. Latvijas Pasts traditionally releases two stamps in the series every year.

"Stamps of the Europa series are very in-demand among philatelists, as some philatelists particularly focus on collecting the stamps issued within this series in all countries of Europe," says Edmunds Bebrišs, philatelic expert and director of the Commercial Management Department at Latvijas Pasts.

The themes of Europa stamps in past years have been connected with literature, nature sites, travel, etc.
