Latvijas Pasts has released the latest stamp in the series Contemporary architecture of Latvia; it is dedicated to the Pārventa library in Ventspils - an example of outstanding architecture that has received awards both in Latvia and internationally. The stamp has been issued following a suggestion of the Latvia Association of Architects, and its presentation and first-day cancellation event will take place today, on October 14, 2011, in the Pārventa library, 4 Tārgales Street, Ventspils. The cancellation event will continue from 11 AM to 6 PM, while the presentation with participation of officials of Latvijas Pasts, Ventspils City Council, the Association of Architects and the Association of Philatelists is set to begin at 12:00.

The total print run is 70,000 stamps, with a face value of LVL 1, corresponding to the cost of mailing a registered A-class letter within Latvia. The stamp, designed by artist Ģirts Grīva, features a photo of the Pārventa library, as well as the names of all six of its architects.

The Pārventa library in Ventspils is among the most striking examples of architecture in Latvia in recent years, having received some of the highest architecture prizes in both Latvia and abroad. The Pārventa library project was acknowledged as the best architectural work and the best new construction in Latvia in 2009, and was also recognized as the best public interior in Latvia in 2009. The library was also voted by other architects to receive the annual Ventspils prize White Down.

Internationally, the Pārventa library was named as the best foreign project in the Russian annual architecture competition Best Office Awards 2011. It was also the first work from Latvia to become part of the exhibition and catalogue of the prestigious international architecture competition DEDALO Minosse.

The library was designed by architecture firm INDIA and its architects: Pēteris Bajārs, Ivars Kalvāns, Rūdolfs Jansons, Ieva Baumane, Dina Sotņikova, and Ilze Ļuļe. The creator of the original interior is Ausma Ķibilde.

The next new philatelic release is planned for 19 October 2011.
