Latvijas Pasts has released special envelopes to mark the twentieth anniversary of the first stamp series of the restored Republic of Latvia; the cancellation event will take place on Wednesday, October 19, from 7:30 AM to 8 PM in post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga.

The first stamp series of the restored Republic of Latvia - The coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia - was released twenty years ago, on October 19, 1991. It included eight postage stamps with the large and small coats of arms of Latvia on different-colored backgrounds. The new series, which demonstrated the important symbols of Latvian statehood to the world, was released with a print run of more than 12 millions stamps, and was very popular both in general use and among philatelic enthusiasts in Latvia and abroad. The stamps were designed by the well-known Latvian artist Gunārs Kirke.

To mark the twentieth anniversary of this significant event, Latvijas Pasts has released special envelopes depicting all stamps included in the first postage stamp series of the restored Republic of Latvia. A total of 1000 envelopes, designed by artist Ģirst Grīva, will be available.
