With the approach of the Second Advent, Latvijas Pasts has released two new, beautiful and jovial stamps in the Christmas series. Their first-day cancellation event will take place on Friday, December 2, from 10 AM to 8 PM in the Christmas market of Doma Square - in the glass building next to the main Christmas tree. Visitors of the Christmas market are also welcome at the House of Greetings of Latvijas Pasts, which will work up until New Year's Eve - December 31.

The well-known artist Ludis Danilāns has depicted cheerful Christmas themes in the new stamps of the Christmas series. The stamp with a denomination of LVL 0.35 shows Father Christmas with a hole in his gift bag, and his faithful friend - reindeer Rudolph, with whom everyone will have the opportunity to have a picture taken in the House of Greetings of Latvijas Pasts in the Christmas market of Doma Square. The print run is 2,000,000 stamps, and stamps with this face value can be used to mail a regular letter within the territory of Latvia.

The stamp with a denomination of LVL 0.60 depicts the main symbol of 2012 - the dragon, who this time is helping Father Christmas bring presents to children and grown-ups around the world. The print run of these stamps is 300,000; stamps of this denomination can be used to mail an international letter to any country outside the European Union.

Along with the new Christmas stamps, Latvijas Pasts has also released a holiday envelope and special cancellation. The first-day cover depicts a huge dragon in a sled - the herald of 2012 - and Father Christmas with a gift bag. The special cancellation is a graphical depiction of a reindeer.

To highlight the significance and lasting value of hand-written greetings, Latvijas Pasts urges everyone this holiday to mail a warm greeting card or letter to their loved ones both in Latvia and abroad. We also ask everyone to send their greetings in a timely manner, as December is the busiest time of the year for post offices throughout the world.

The next new philatelic release is planned for January 7, 2012.
