For Night of Museums, Latvijas Pasts releases special postcards and postmark depicting skeleton drawn by Flemish anatomist Andreas Vesalius

Latvijas Pasts has released special postcards depicting a skeleton drawn by the influential 16th century Flemish anatomist Andreas Vesalius. It will be possible to purchase them at the Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine and cancel with a special postmark during the Night of Museums this Saturday (May 19). The postcard displays the stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the museum (released by Latvijas Pasts in 2007), which depicts a human skeleton from the 1555 edition of Vesalius's seminal work De humani corporis fabrica, which is part of the museum's collection.

The stamp issued by Latvijas Pasts in 2007 with edition of 200,000 (designed by artist Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja) attracted significant interest, as it depicted a skeleton drawn by Vesalius for the 16th century textbook whose copies are considered masterpieces throughout the world. Andreas Vesalius was the first to describe the skeletal system in line with the concepts of modern medicine.

Because of that, in response to the request of the Museum of the History of Medicine, Latvijas Pasts has released special postcards on the subject for the 2012 Night of Museums, and they will be available for purchase at the museum from 7 PM to midnight. It will also be possible to see the actual textbook on which the stamp is based.

The participation of Latvijas Pasts in the Night of Museums has become a tradition - the company is taking part in the event for the fourth time by releasing special postcards and creating special postmark.
