Latvijas Pasts releases special envelope on 125th birthday of poet and artist Alberts Kronenbergs

To mark the 125th birthday of the Latvian graphic artist and poet Alberts Kronenbergs, Latvijas Pasts has released a special envelope, with the cancellation event scheduled for Kronenbergs' birthday on October 18 in the post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

The envelope has been designed by artist Ģirts Grīva, and it features a portrait of Kronenbergs and samples of books created by him. A total of 1000 of the special envelopes are available, each priced at LVL 0.35.

Writer and artist Alberts Kronenbergs was born in 1887. He illustrated around 130 books, both his own and ones by other authors - the first among them was the book of Latvian fairytales Brīnuma stabulītes (Wonder Flutes). The first book written and illustrated entirely by Kronenbergs himself was Mazais ganiņš un viņa brīnišķīgais ceļojums (The Little Herdboy and His Wonderful Journey).

Kronenbergs' best-known books are Zelta laiki (Golden Times), Tuntuļu Jurītis, Jērādiņa, Sprunguļmuižā gadatirgus (Fair at Sprunguļmuiža Manor), and the primer Zelta atslēdziņa (Little Golden Key). Several plays based on the graphic artist and poet's works have been staged in the Daile Theater.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for October 21.
