Latvijas Pasts holds a first day cancellation of the Railroad Bridges joint release of the Baltic States

The latest Latvijas Pasts postage stamp block is the Railroad Bridges joint release of the Baltic States, which means that in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia these postage stamps with similar design and the same circulation will be issued on the same day. Three postage stamps are included in the postage stamp block, and the first day cancellation will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the post center at Sakta, Brivibas Boulevard 32, Rīgā, from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

The joint release of the postage stamps is devoted to three railway bridges in the Baltic States, i.e. the bridge over Gauja in Carnikava, Latvia, Lyduvenai railway bridge, Lithuania and Narva railway bridge in Estonia. The design of the postage stamp block was made by an Estonian artist Indreks Ilvess, and the denomination of the stamp is LVL 0.55, corresponding to the cost of mailing an ordinary letter within the European Union. The circulation of the postage stamp block is 30,000 copies.

Simultaneously with the postage stamp block Latvijas Pasts released a separate postage stamp with a railway bridge in Carnikava, its denomination is LVL 0.35, corresponding to the cost of mailing an ordinary letter within Latvia. The circulation of the postage stamp is 100,000 copies.

The Carnikava metal railway bridge connects Carnikava and Gauja settlement. It was built in 1950, and its total length is 220.8 meters.

The total length of Lyduvenai bridge is 599 meters, its height is 42 meters, and it is the highest and the longest bridge in Lithuania. The wooden overpass of the bridge was built as early as in 1916.

The total length of the bridge built in the Narva city, Estonia in 1960 is 162 meters, and the height is 17,2 meters.
