On Friday, July 26, Latvijas Pasts will hold a special cancellation event for the envelope released to mark the 150th birthday of the outstanding Latvian composer Jāzeps Vītols. The event will take place in the post office Sakta, 32Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

The print run of the envelope designed by artist Ģirts Grīva is 1,000. The price of the envelope is LVL 0.35. The envelope depicts the composer at a piano and the notes of one of his most popular works - The Bard of Beverina.

The envelope can be purchased together with the stamp Jāzeps Vītols and His Students, which was released in 2012 as part of the series Republic of Latvia - 100. The face value of the stamp is LVL 0.60, corresponding to the cost of mailing a regular letter outside the European Union.

Jāzeps Vītols (1863-1948) was an outstanding Latvian composer and music teacher. During his life the composer wrote approximately 100 solos, 100 choral songs and 300 folk song arrangements. His best-known works include The Castle of Light (Gaismas pils), The Bard of Beverina (Beverīnasdziedonis), The King's Daughter (Karaļmeita), Mirdza's Song (Mirdzasdziesma), and Mežezers. In 1919, Vītols participated in the establishment of the first Latvian conservatory (now Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music); his work significantly contributed to the development of professional music in Latvia.
