Marking the 25th anniversary of the Popular Front of Latvia, Latvijas Pasts has released a special stamp, the first-day cancellation event of which will take place on Saturday, 05 October 2013 simultaneously in three cities of Latvia - Riga, Cesis and Liepaja. The presentation of the stamp has been included into the anniversary event of the Popular Front that will take place on 05 October at the Riga Congress Centre from 2p.m. till 4p.m.

In the new stamp, painter Daina Kaulina (Kauliņa) has reproduced the ethnographic symbol - the spirit of the fields - depicted in the logo of the Popular Front of Latvia. This symbol has been reproduced on the background of the flag of Latvia - red in the shade of carmine with a narrow white band running horizontally through the middle - and the symbol of the Third Awakening in Latvia - the morning star. The denomination of the stamps is LVL 0.35 and EUR 0.50, corresponding to the cost of mailing a regular letter within Latvia. The print run is 30,000.

The first-day cancellation event of the stamp Popular Front 25 will take place simultaneously at the museums of three cities of Latvia, the exhibitions of which are related to the historical popular movement at the end of the 1980ies and at the beginning of the 1990ies. The cancellation event will take place in Riga, at the Museum of the Popular Front of Latvia, 13/15 Vecpilsetas Street from 10a.m. till 6p.m., at Cesis History and Art Museum, 9 Pils laukums, and at Liepaja Museum, 16/18 Kurmajas prospekts, - from10a.m. till 1p.m.

The Popular Front of Latvia was a social and political organisation during the Third Awakening in Latvia that supported the restoration of the independent and democratic state of Latvia. The Popular Front was founded on 08 October 1988 and gained up to 250,000 participants by gradually obtaining acknowledgement among the population. The activities of the participants of the organisation and their supporters started the Third Awakening or so-called Singing Revolution that facilitated the regaining of independence by the Baltic States.
