Latvijas Pasts extends stamp design submission term, invites everyone to author poetry lines

Based on a request of potential participants of the stamp design contest announced on October 21, 2013, Latvijas Pasts has extended the term for submission of new stamp design ideas to November 8, and is offering an interesting additional activity - an opportunity for everyone to become the author of a collective poem. Each author of poetry lines will be entered in a lottery for a Kindle e-book reader. The voting for the submitted stamp designs will take place from November 11 to 19 at http://jaunapastmarka.lv. The winner of the design contest will be announced on November 20.

As previously announced, Latvijas Pasts is holding the stamp design contest this year in collaboration with Imants Ziedonis Foundation Viegli, and the theme of the contest is associations with the eminent poet Ziedonis. Drawing inspiration from Ziedonis' works, Latvijas Pasts and foundation Viegli invites everyone to participate in the creation of a monument in the form of a collective poem. By logging on at http://jaunapastmarka.lv/twitterdzejolis with a Twitter account, everyone will have an opportunity to add their creative message in 88 characters - two lines of poetry.

As part of the stamp design contest, Latvijas Pasts in collaboration with foundation Viegli is also offering a unique opportunity to try on Imants Ziedonis' hair style. By registering for the game at http://jaunapastmarka.lvwith a Twitter account, participants will be able to try on the poet's iconic bushy hair. Each participant will be entered in a prize drawing for the book From Jāņi to Murjāņi by Ziedonis and Aivars Berķis and the CD-format record Epiphanies with poems by Ziedonis and music by composer Raimonds Tiguls, with personalized dedications from the composer and representatives of the foundation.

The stamp design contest is being held by Latvijas Pasts for the third time, and for the first time with a defined theme. From October 21 to November 8, everyone is invited to visit http://jaunapastmarka.lv and submit a stamp design associated with Imants Ziedonis - illustration of poetry, fairy tales, prose, or creative and unusual ideas related to the poet and his works. The design that gathers the most votes will be used as the basis for a real stamp that will be released with a print run of 300,000 in January 2014. The denomination of the stamp will be 0.50, corresponding to the cost of mailing an ordinary letter within Latvia.

Both natural and legal persons will be able to participate in the contest. All submitted works will be initially evaluated by judges, which include foundation Viegli representative Māra Upmane-Holšteine, composer Raimonds Tiguls, advertising expert Armands Leitis and Latvijas Pasts Philately Department Director Edmunds Bebrišs. On November 11, the works selected by the judges will be presented for public voting - by using a Twitter, Facebook or Draugiem.lv account, users will be able to vote for their favorite stamp design at http://jaunapastmarka.lv.

In addition to the chance to see their stamp travel to countries far and near, the winner of the contest will receive a prize - a graphics tablet - and an opportunity to create a unique personalized stamp set at Latvijas Pasts.
