In anticipation of the Advent, Latvijas Pasts is releasing the latest stamps in the Christmas series to allow everyone to send their Christmas and New Year's greetings in a timely manner. The Christmas stamps are also the final two stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts with dual denominations - in lats and euros; starting from 2014, stamps will be denominated only in euros. The first day cancellation event is scheduled for Friday, November 22, in post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

The Christmas and New Year's stamps released by Latvijas Pasts are traditionally among the customers' favorites. The designer of the holiday stamps is the Latvian artist and children's book illustrator Anita Paegle, who has depicted in the stamps a little dwarf girl, hurrying to bring gifts to children over snow-covered roofs on a wooden rocking horse. The first day envelope released together with the stamps depicts Winter in a snow-covered cape, and the special cancelation features a gingerbread heart.

The stamp with a denomination of LVL 0.35 and 0.50 is suitable for mailing a regular letter within the territory of Latvia, and its print run is 900,000. The stamp with a denomination of LVL 0.60 and € 0.85 is suitable for mailing a regular letter outside the European Union; its print run is 200,000. The price of the first day envelope is LVL 0.35, with a print run of 1,500.

Latvijas Pasts reminds that there is no time restriction on the circulation and use of stamps denominated in both lats and euros. Stamps denominated only in lats will remain valid throughout 2014 pursuant to the Law on the Procedure for Introduction of Euro. Starting from next year, stamps will be denominated only in euros.

Latvijas Pasts wishes everyone a bright and happy Advent and invites everyone to send a nice greeting card or letter to their loved ones both in Latvia and abroad. We also urge to mail the holiday greetings in a timely manner, as December is the busiest time of the year for post offices throughout the world.

The new stamps in the Christmas series can be viewed here.

The first new philatelic release of 2014, denominated in euros, is scheduled for the first working day of the new year - January 2.
