Latvijas Pasts in 2014 to release more stamps than last year: at least 36 new stamps with print run of six million

In 2014, Latvijas Pasts intends to issue at least 36 new stamps with a total print run of six million - more than last year both in terms of the number of stamps and their total print run; 26 stamps with a print run of five million were released in 2013. The stamps, which travel all over the world on various mail items, depict historical and current events important to the state of Latvia and its residents. In addition, a complete set of the stamps released by Latvijas Pasts in 2013 is already available to collectors.

The themes of the stamps planned for 2014 are related to Riga as the European Capital of Culture, the Winter Olympics, commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way, the anniversary of the Republic of Latvia, as well as anniversaries of several notable personalities and events. Three joint issues will be released this year in collaboration with the postal operators of other countries - Sweden, Georgia, and neighboring Lithuania and Estonia.

In January 2014, upon Latvia's accession to the eurozone, Latvijas Pasts released the first stamps of various euro denominations in a brand new series Flowers, as well as the stamp Imants Ziedonis Will Bloom Eternally, which was the winner of a voting on social networks, and a joint issue created in collaboration with Sweden dedicated to this year's European Capitals of Culture: Riga and Umeå.

In the beginning of February, Latvijas Pasts will release a special stamp to mark the Winter Olympics in Sochi, while March will see the release of the second joint issue of 2014, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Georgia. In the beginning of June, a stamp will be dedicated to the 200th anniversary of composer and Latvian cultural worker Jānis Cimze, and a stamp in July will be mark the 800th anniversary of the Turaida Castle.

The third joint issue of 2014 will be released in August, when Latvijas Pasts together with the neighboring countries Lithuania and Estonia will present a two-stamp block to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way. August will also see the release of the stamp Gotthard Friedrich Stender - 300, commemorating the writer, grammarian and one of the most influential and authoritative personalities in the cultural life of Latvia in the 18th century.

In anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the state of Latvia in 2018, Latvijas Pasts this year, for the sixth year in a row, will release three new stamps in the series Republic of Latvia - 100. At the end of the year, two new stamps will be released in the traditional Christmas series.

A set of all stamps released in 2013 is already available for purchase at the largest post offices and on the Latvijas Pasts online store at www.pasts.lv. The design of the set of stamps can be viewed here.

All stamps of 2014 will also be included in an annual set, which will be available for purchase in the beginning of 2015.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for February 2.
