Latvijas Pasts makes addition to standard series of stamps denominated in euro

Latvijas Pasts has released four new stamps to supplement the standard series of stamps denominated in the euro, which was issued in January 2014. This series now includes 10 stamps of various denominations intended for paying for the widest range of postal items. The total print run of the new stamps is two million. The first-day cancellation event will take place on March 22, 2014 in the post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The standard series stamps denominated in the euro depict flowers and they have been designed by artist Ģirts Grīva. The release of the new stamps is accompanied by the release of the first day envelope and cancellation.

The new stamps with denominations of EUR0.01, EUR0.04 and EUR 0.07 are intended for combining with the stamps of other face values, while the stamp of EUR 0.50 corresponds to the cost of mailing a regular letter within Latvia.

In January 2014, Latvijas Pasts issued the first six stamps of the standard series with denominations in the euro which were the very first stamps denominated in the euro only.

Latvijas Pasts notes that stamps denominated in lats can still be used throughout 2014. They will be removed from circulation on January 1, 2015. There is no time restriction on the usage of the stamps denominated in both lats and euros. The denomination of the stamps released by Latvijas Pasts before January 2013 is always LVL, even if the currency has not been indicated, whereas stamps denominated in the euro can be recognized by the € symbol.

The new stamps have been printed at Baltic Banknote printing house and they can be viewed here.

The next new philatelic release is scheduled for March 28.
