Presentation of Latvian-Georgian joint stamp issue dedicated to twentieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between two countries to be held at Saeima

To mark thetwentieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Latvia and Georgia, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima (Latvian Parliament) and Teimuraz Janjalia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia in the Republic of Latvia, will open the presentation dedicated to the joint stamp issue of the two countries designed in honor of this event. The presentation of the new stamp will be heldon March 28, 2014at the Grand Vestibule of the Saeima, 11 Jēkaba Street, Riga, at 11 AM.The first-day cancellation event will take place on the same day in the post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.

The new stamp has been designed by the Georgian artist Georg Kartvelishvili and it depicts the significant symbols of independence of the two nations: the Freedom Monument in Riga, the capital of Latvia, and the Mother of Georgia Statue in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The stamp dedicated to diplomatic relations between Latvia and Georgia will be issued in Latvia with a print run of 50,000 copies. The denomination of one stamp is EUR 0.85, which can be used for mailing a regular Class A letter outside the European Union.

The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special envelope with a print run of 1,500 copies and designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva.

March 11, 1993 is regarded as the date of establishment of the diplomatic relations between Latvia and Georgia. The joint stamp issue of the two countries was initiated by the Embassy of Georgia in 2013, and the concept of the new stamp was presented at the Saeima last year.
