Social network users cast close to 800 votes for the winning stamp devoted to beginning of printing works in Latvia

The most beautiful stamp released by Latvijas Pasts in 2013, as voted by social network users, is Printing Works - 425 designed by artist Arta Ozola-Jaunarājaand dedicated to the 425th anniversary of the beginning of printing works in the territory of Latvia. This has been the third year in a row that a stamp designed by the said artist has been chosen as the most beautiful one by the people of Latvia. A total of 758 votes have been cast for the winning stamp. The runner-up is the stamp Dedication to Latvian Sportsmen and the third place is Iris from the colorful Flowers series. 4010 votes altogether have been cast for the different stamps released last year.

The print run of the winning stamp released by Latvijas Pasts in October 2013 was 50,000 copies. The artist depicted the autograph of the founder of Riga's first printing house Niclas Mollyn and the oldest surviving printing press in the world from the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp. Printing Works - 425 is the third stamp designed by Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja which has been voted as the most beautiful stamp of the year by the people of Latvia.

Printing Works - 425 took the lead in the first days of the contest gaining the votes of its supporters who spread the word and encouraged other users of Twitter, Facebook and Draugiem to vote for the most beautiful stamp.

The supporters of Dedication to Latvian Sportsmen cast 607 votes for this stamp, which was enough to take the second place, while the third place was earned by the stamp Iris which gained 411 votes. The remaining votes were distributed as follows: the stamp dedicated to the Song and Dance Festival received 257 votes, the Cats stamps in the Pets series gained 256 and 236 votes respectively, the European Bee-eater stamp earned 224 votes, the Latvia University of Agriculture - 150 stamp obtained 174 votes and the Port of Liepāja stamp got 131 votes.

To support the public's interest in Latvia, Latvijas Pasts for the third consecutive year held a contest in social networks, inviting any user of Twitter, Facebook and Draugiem to vote for the stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts. Voting for the most beautiful stamp was available on the website www.gadapastmarka.lv from March 10 to March 28, 2014.

The most beautiful stamp could be chosen from the 26 stamps issued in 2013. The pictures and descriptions of the stamps could be found on the website www.gadapastmarka.lv.

The winner of the 2012 contest became a stamp in the Europa stamp series Visit… which received 646 votes. In 2011, the title of the most beautiful stamp was granted to the stamp block dedicated to the Struve Geodetic Arc.
