Latvijas Pasts makes addition to the annual series Coats of Arms of Latvian Towns and Municipalities and releases three new stamps depicting the coats of arms of Alsunga, Beverīna and Smiltene Municipalities. The first-day cancellation event will take place in Riga post office No. 50 located in the shopping mall Origo, 2 Stacijas laukums, Riga, on January 29, 2016, from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM.

The stamp with a denomination of €0.50, which makes it suitable for mailing a regular Class B letter to any address in Latvia, is dedicated to the coat of arms of Alsunga Municipality and depicts the magnificent golden ring fibula, glorified in songs. The print run of the stamp is 600,000 copies.

The stamp with a denomination of €0.57 depicts the coat of arms of Beverīna Municipality, which features a fibula with signs important to Latvians and symbols of figurative meaning. The print run of this stamp is 300,000 copies and its denomination corresponds to the cost of sending a regular Class A letter within Latvia.

In turn, the stamp with a denomination of €1.39 features the coat of arms of Smiltene Municipality. The base of the coat of arms is gold-colored and it depicts a blue cornflower with nine petals, symbolizing the entire Municipality: the town of Smiltene and eight surrounding parishes. The print run of this stamp is 300,000 copies and its denomination corresponds to the cost of mailing a registered Class B letter within Latvia.

The print run of the special first-day cover is 1,500 copies.

The stamps and the cover have been designed by the artist Ģirts Grīva. The stamps have been printed at Baltic Banknote printing house in Latvia.

Latvijas Pasts has been issuing the series Coats of Arms of Latvian Towns and Municipalities since 1991, by supplementing it with new stamps on an annual basis.
